Sally Martin Canfield

Sally Martin Canfield, 86, went home to be with her Savior, on March 1, 2026, passing peacefully at her home in Richmond Heights, Missouri, surrounded by the family she loved so dearly. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, to Paul and Kathleen Martin, Sally was their miracle child. Married later in life and told they might never have children, Paul and Kathleen gave heartfelt thanks to God for Sally every Thanksgiving. Her father’s prayer of gratitude would one day expand to include grandsons - and eventually generations beyond what they could have imagined. Sally graduated from Webster Groves High School, where in seventh grade she caught the attention of a young Bill Canfield. Bill was first drawn to Sally not only for her beauty and spark, but because she had the St. Louis Cardinals’ batting averages memorized. That Cardinal knowledge marked the beginning of a 70-year plus love story that would one day include season tickets. Sally later graduated from Miami University in Ohio before marrying Bill on September 2, 1961. In her early married years, Sally taught middle school English, worked at an art studio, and later ran an antique business from her home, partnering with a few friends. She had an eye for beauty, a love for decorating, and a gift for conversation. Athletic and quietly competitive, Sally loved sports - especially her beloved St. Louis Cardinals. She could follow a box score with the precision of a statistician and the heart of a true fan. But the defining love of Sally’s life was not baseball - it was her Savior, Jesus Christ. Later in life, Sally came to know and deeply love the Lord. Her faith matured into steady devotion and joyful obedience. For over 30 years, she faithfully served in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), teaching Scripture and pouring into the lives of countless women. She loved “her ladies,” and she loved the Word of God. After BSF, Sally found a passion in supporting Central Christian School as a board member for more than a decade. Though an only child, Sally would often say through grateful tears, “I always prayed for a big family.” The Lord answered abundantly. Every Thanksgiving, as children and grandchildren filled her home, she would marvel at God’s goodness. She is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, Bill; her sons Jim and Tom; 8 grandchildren;10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild - a living legacy of answered prayer. Sally’s life was marked by gratitude, faith, hospitality, loyalty, and love. She leaves behind not just memories, but a heritage of faith that will echo through generations. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” - Psalm 116:15 A funeral service celebrating Sally’s life and her eternal hope in Christ will be held at Central Presbyterian Church in Clayton, Missouri, at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, with a reception and refreshments to follow.
