Kathryn E. Sandberg

Kathryn (Kay) E. Sandberg, age 94, passed away peacefully at the Russell and Fern deGreff Hospice House on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Kay was born in Saint Charles, Missouri. She graduated from Soldan High School, St. Louis in 1945. She attended the University of Missouri, Columbia. An independent spirit, Kay relocated to New York, after college. She worked as a secretary in the Empire State building, when an unexpected introduction brought an enticing offer to model, in the Wholesale Garment District. Kay’s passion for clothing turned into her dream job, modeling designer evening wear and furs, for department store buyers and others. Dancing to Big Band music in downtown nightclubs, and attending the latest Broadway shows with her friends were memories that she cherished. Kay returned to St. Louis where she met and married Donald Sandberg, of Fond du lac, WI, on June 6, 1953. They relocated to Kansas City and started their family in the new Post-War development of Prairie Village. Together, they raised four children. Raising a family took skill, creativity, a very good sense of humor, and lots of love. Many lifelong friendships were enjoyed with wonderful neighbors and friends. After 25 years, work relocated them back to Chesterfield, MO. Kay was an active Bridge player. She played in several groups and treasured the friendships she made. She also played the piano for enjoyment, loved to shop, and was an avid reader who enjoyed a good mystery. Kay was the beloved wife, of 32 years, to the late Donald A Sandberg. Cherished mother to Craig (Kathy), Marsha, Kirk (Debbi) and Patricia (Jeff) Craig. Loving grandmother to Christina and Nick Sandberg, and Haley (Garett) Roop. Dear Aunt, cousin, and devoted friend.
