George E. Samoska

Samoska, George E., 79, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. He was the beloved husband for 51 years of Kathleen Samoska (nee Walker). He was a loving father to Caroline (Daniel) Wacker and Paul (Melanie) Samoska, and he was the cherished "Papa George" of Jimmy, Luke, Ben and Jane Wacker and Lindsey and Max Samoska. George was the son of the late George J. and Anne C. Samoska (nee Homza), the brother of Dennis (Karen) Samoska, Carol (Arnie) Henke, Dianne (Alan) Throm and the late Mary (Roger, survives) Wigginton. He was an irreplaceable father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and dear lifelong friend. George was born and raised in East St. Louis, IL. After attending St. Martin's grade school, he graduated from Assumption High School in 1960. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from St. Louis University in 1964 where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He also quickly earned his MBA from St. Louis University as his long career in information technology began. He worked for IBM and then McDonnell-Douglas before he was hired at Southwestern Bell. He worked for them throughout their acquisition by AT&T, and retired after a long and successful career in 2007. George was an avid St. Louis sports fan. He rooted for every team that ever called St. Louis home, but especially the Cardinals, both St. Louis NFL teams, and the Billikins. When his kids attended Mizzou, he became a huge Tiger fan as well and was a season ticket holder that stuck by his teams, often in spite of their performance. Without a doubt, his very favorite teams were the ones that rostered his grandkids. His affinity for sports analysis and trivia will live on in his grandsons. George attended Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian church and was a dedicated participant in Bible Study Fellowship for many years. He was a loyal and committed son, brother, and uncle who showed up steadfastly throughout his life. He treated his friends like family as well. As a result, his passing leaves a huge void in the lives of many lifelong friends. George was a fierce competitor in everything from athletics in his youth to game nights with his friends even a few weeks ago. He loved music, the theater, vacations, and trips to visit friends and family. He leaves us with memories that make us laugh until we cry, and a legacy of commitment, hard work, and love. He is deeply loved and dearly missed. Services: Funeral service at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church, 12928 Ladue Rd. (63141), Monday, November 7, 2022, 10:30 a.m. Interment Bellerive Gardens.
