Edward John Costigan Jr.

Costigan, Edward John, Jr., fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Mother Church, on the 5th of September 2024 at the age of 81. He was married to beloved Carol Cronin Costigan for 58 years. Dear son of late Edward John Sr. and Sara Guth Costigan; dear brother to Sally Coleman (Joseph), late James Costigan (Catherine), late Elizabeth Jordan, Robert Costigan (Patricia), David Costigan, Louise Kennedy (John); dearest father to Carrie Been (Jim), Sara McLellan (Scott), Katie Heyel (Jonathan); beloved grandfather to Sophia and Suzanna McLellan, James Costigan; dear colleague to Pam “Radar” Dauphin; he is survived by his relatives and friends. Mr. Costigan graduated from St. Louis University High School (’60), St. Louis University (’64), and received his MBA from Washington University (‘66). He loved the Catholic teachings and was so proud of his daughters and granddaughters graduating from Visitation Academy. Mr. Costigan was known as “Eddie” to many. Eddie’s motto was to work hard and play hard. Five passions in his life were God, family, friends, business and golf. Eddie was known for his integrity, humbleness, charity, and spending time with people. He was curious and interested in learning about others’ life experiences. He was a faithful witness to the Roman Catholic Church. His career and passion in the financial industry spanned for six decades at Edward Jones, AG Edwards, and Stifel Nicolaus. Right up and until Eddie’s passing, he continued to work given his desire to help people. An avid golfer, one of his most cherished endeavors was playing at Sand Hills in Mullen, Nebraska. In his last 27 years, he brought family and friends to experience his love for the course and the people and community of Mullen. He referred to Sand Hills as God’s country, where incredible memories were made. Eddie was a natural athlete and competitor in many sports. Eddie played tennis at Saint Louis High and University. A few of his highlights were competing in the US Open Amateur tennis tournament with his daughter, playing with Arthur Ashe, and being a 13-time golf and tennis champion at Bellerive Country Club. He shared his admiration of his mother being a Missouri Amateur golf Champion, enjoyed teaching tennis and golf, and riding his bike on the Katy Trail. Services: Memorial Visitation, September 12th at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Rd, Kirkwood, MO 63122 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm and service on September 14th at St. Francis Xavier College Church, 3628 Lindell Blvd, St. Louis MO 63108 at 9:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital, Old St. Ferdinand Shrine, Saint Louis University High School, Visitation Academy, or St. Louis Zoo.
