Dolorese Ann Rider

Rider, Dolorese (nee Hodges), passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the age of 82. Beloved Wife of the late Rex Rider; Mother of Joni (Howard) Katz, Terri Rider, and Keith (Karen) Rider; Grandmother of Lucas, Zev, Jack, Lyla, and Rex; Dear Aunt and Friend to many. How do you explain a lifetime in just a few words. And the greatest of these is love. Dee’s life reflected this character in everything she did. She was of a gentle, quiet spirit but she was loud with her actions of love. Someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. (James 2:18) Dee put love into action. She was always thinking of others, doing for others, helping others. Even in her final few days, she was still thinking and giving to others. She was a mom and grandmother. Dee was the biggest fan of her grandchildren in whatever activity they were involved. She listened to our stories like they were the most interesting story ever told. She gave guidance, advice and loved to laugh. Every child and grandchild was her favorite, and time spent with her was precious. Mom would always end her cards with “Love you with all my heart.” And she truly did. Dee was a dedicated friend. Most people who met Dee ended up with a long running friendship. Her loyalty never wavered. She would be the first to check in on those in need, giving however she was able. Dee even made friends with the dog down the street. The dog would run to her home to receive the dog biscuit, thus making friendship with the owner. Dee genuinely loved people and focused on their life happenings and their interests rather than her own. Her friends were many and from all over. In Dee’s free time she enjoyed regularly going to the gym. She was so pleased to walk 1,000 miles annually on a treadmill. She was an incredible quilter. What started as a time pass project, evolved in becoming her passion where she gained the skill and confidence to make quilted projects for others. Dee’s body failed her due to ALS, but her legacy of love continues on. There is a huge void, but we are better people because of her. Our tears are of sadness, but also joy because we were the privileged one who knew her and loved her.
