William "Barry" McCormack Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

McCormack, William "Barry", 91, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Best known as "Barry", he was born on May 30, 1931 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late William and Ruth McCormack, dear brother of the late Suzanne Godfrey. He graduated from De Andreis High School and St. Louis University. Upon graduation, Barry served in the navy on a destroyer at the end of the Korean War conflict. His professional career began at IBM, where he worked for 25 years. He moved on to Stifel Nicolaus and Raymond James, as a financial advisor, retiring from the business at age 77. Barry's proudest accomplishment was his family. He married the love of his life, Jan on April 4, 1959 in St. Louis, Missouri and they were able to share 63 beautiful years together. A dedicated father to 6 loving children and their spouses, Mike (Gina) McCormack, Patty (Bill) O'Connell, Tom (Jill) McCormack, Susie (Mike) Feuerborn, Jill (Tim) Dyn, and Maggie (Anthony) Nguyen, Grandfather of 18, and Great Grandfather of 6 (with number 7 on the way.) His love of family extended to many others, including life long friends, in-laws, nieces and nephews. Barry had the wonderful ability to bring everyone together through his hilarious story telling. His sense of humor was infectious. Most of the time you could find Barry laughing louder than the rest of the crowd. Barry was a devout Catholic and enjoyed sharing his strong faith with others. He was a parishioner of Ascension Catholic Church since 1975. Barry's greatest hobby was the game of golf. You could always find him on the course at least 3 times a week. His love of the game began with his father, who taught him how to play at the age of 12 and he continued playing until the incredible age of 90. Years ago, he got a hole in one on the same hole and course his father and uncle had aced before him. His passion of golf took him on many adventures around the country and the world. Some of Barry's highlights included attending the Masters, playing St. Andrews in Scotland, Kapalua in Hawaii, and Pebble Beach in California. His golf passion led to years of volunteering at many professional golf events. Barry was a lifelong member of Norwood Hills Country Club. Twenty years ago, Barry and his wife Jan found a second home in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he loved playing golf in the warmer climate. In 2014, he joined Isla del Sol Country Club where he met many new people from all over the country who became his dear friends. At age 89 he and his teammate won the member-member golf tournament at Isla del Sol. If he wasn't on the golf course, you could find him enjoying happy hour on his deck with his wife by his side taking in beautiful sunsets. Barry was an inspiration to everyone who knew him and he will be greatly missed. We thank God for him and the love he gave and know we will see him again one day. Services: Visitation at Ascension Catholic Church, Chesterfield, Friday, June 10, 2022, 9:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment private.
