Elizabeth Ann Baker Coughenour-Yociss passed away April 6, 2019, due to complications from Alzheimer’s. Her husband Frank was at her side. Ann was born March 17, 1931 to Harry Morton Baker and Myrtle Nicina Marcussen in Huron, South Dakota. She was the youngest of five children. When she was 2 the family moved to Silverton, Oregon where Ann attended elementary school. The family moved to Portland and Ann attend Jefferson High School, until her senior year when they moved to Monmouth Oregon where she graduated as valedictorian of the class. After High School she attended Linfield College in Oregon where she majored in education and music. To put herself through college she worked four years as the secretary to the Athletic Director. She was crowned Miss Oregon in 1950 during her Junior year. She participated in the Miss America Pageant, with a vocal selection. After graduating from Linfield, Ann taught elementary school in Portland for 2 years before marrying her first husband Allen Adair Coughenour and moving to Germany where Allen was a dentist with the Army. They moved back to the US and lived in Oklahoma where Allen finished his oral surgery classes and Ann taught music in elementary and high school. After that they moved to St. Louis where Allen established an oral surgery practice and Ann taught school until their son Marvin was born in 1961. Ann enjoyed being a mother and entertaining. She was a great hostess. Ann’s mother moved in with the family in 1964 and lived with them until she passed away in 1968. Ann was an active member of the community. She was President of the St. Louis Dental Society, sang with the St. Louis Choral Group, performed in local operas, was a dedicated docent for the St. Louis Zoo and served on a committee with the Salvation Army for several years. Ann was also an avid skier, tennis player and runner. Ann became a widow when Allen died of a heart attack while running July 7, 1982. Ann meet Frank Yociss in 1987 and they married in August 23, 2000. They loved to travel and went to Europe, Mexico and Lithuania several times through the years. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Hazel Howlett, brothers Harry, Roger and John Baker, and her first husband Dr. Allen Coughenour. Ann is survived by her husband Frank Yociss, her son Marvin Coughenour, stepdaughters Jean Kohner, Diane Yociss, and Lillie Vieth, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Foundation. There will be a viewing Monday April 8, 2019 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Ortmann Stipanovich Funeral Home 12444 Olive Boulevard, Creve Coeur, MO. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 10:00 AM with burial to follow at Bellerive Gardens Cemetery.
