Floyd, Jr., Walter L., passed away, Friday, August 7, 2026. Beloved husband of Patricia Floyd (nee Voss) for 32 years; cherished father of Michael Floyd, Mary Ann Floyd, and Mark (Christene) Floyd; devoted grandfather of Michael (Carli) Richardson, Justin (Clara) Dallavis, Caroline (Ivan) Ivanovsky, Maxwell Floyd, the late Alexander Floyd, Nicholas Floyd, Peyton Neidel, and Ava Neidel; loving great grandfather of Rory Ivanovsky, Scarlett Ivanovsky, Louis Dallavis, Leo Dallavis, Logan Richardson, and Lainey Richardson; dear uncle, cousin, and friend to many. Walter, a distinguished attorney, gifted vocalist, and beloved native of St. Louis City, passed away leaving behind an extraordinary legacy that bridged the worlds of law and the arts. A true Renaissance man, his long and vibrant life was defined by intellectual brilliance, an unwavering commitment to ethics, and a lifelong passion for music. Raised in St. Louis City, his sharp mind was evident early on as an Academy gifted scholar. He graduated from Beaumont High School. He went on to attend St. Louis University School of Law, where he distinguished himself by graduating number one in his class-a crowning achievement that presaged one of the most dedicated legal careers in Missouri history. He went on to practice law for 61 remarkable years, founding the Floyd Law Firm and having the privilege of practicing alongside his son, Mark, for 30 years before retiring. Respected deeply by colleagues and opponents alike, he earned Martindale-Hubbell’s highest peer rating for exceptional skill and uncompromised ethics. In recognition of his decades of distinguished service and enduring impact on the legal community, he was honored by the Missouri Bar Association as a Missouri Legend. While the courtroom showcased his formidable intellect, the stage captured his heart. A talented vocalist, he performed at The Muny for two decades from 1952 to 1975, bringing joy to countless summer audiences under the stars. His passion for classical vocal performance led him to Rome to study opera, immersing himself in the craft of the world’s greatest musical traditions. His bond with the local theater community remained strong throughout his life, highlighted by his return to the stage in the 1996 Muny Alumni Production. Whether building a legacy in law, mastering an aria, or serving his hometown, Walter approached every chapter of life with grace, dedication, and enthusiasm. His memory lives on in the legacy of justice he built and the music he shared so generously with the world.
