Sylvia Torres Fletcher

Sylvia Torres Fletcher, at the age of 72, passed away peacefully with her children by her side on Thursday, June 08, 2023. Sylvia was born to Robert Torres Sr. and Carmen Mendez on May 01, 1951 in Houston, Texas, where she spent her formative years, attending Holy Name Catholic School, St. Ann Catholic School, and St. Agnes Academy. Sylvia went on to obtain her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing from the Texas Woman’s University in 1973 and 1978 respectively. Ultimately, she became an advanced nurse practitioner in 1995 and continued her practice until her retirement. Throughout her career, she embodied her values of compassion, autonomy, education, and generosity. She spent the majority of her career serving the at-risk population and contributed to the advancement in the field of nursing by teaching at the graduate level. Sylvia was a loving daughter and sister. More than anything, she was a devoted mother and fierce protector. She showed unconditional love and support in her commitment to fostering her children to realize their best and truest selves. She shared the beauties of life through religion, music, art, travel, and nature. Sylvia was adept at harnessing the humbling and healing nature of humor, and made sure to pass this trait on to her children. Lastly, Sylvia almost always had a loving puppy companion by her side, ever since she was a little girl. At last, they will all be at her side once again. She is survived by her son Peter (Emily) Fletcher, MD, and daughter, Rachel (Clayton) Fletcher Stubblefield; her grandchildren, Sloane Stubblefield, and Noah, Luke, and Jack Fletcher; her brother Paul (Jannette) Torres, and sisters Eloisa (Robert) Mancha, and Gloria (Manuel) Longoria. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Robert Torres, Jr., John Torres, and Thomas Torres. Services: Funeral Mass at St. Anselm Catholic Church, 530 South Mason Road, Creve Coeur, Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal and burial will follow at Bellerive Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
