Raymond E. Bohlmann

Raymond E. Bohlmann (86) passed peacefully on Sunday, February 9th, 2025, surrounded by his family. Ray was born April 3, 1938, in Gordon, Nebraska to Hermena Milke and Edward Carl Bohlmann. He was raised on a farm as the youngest of 7 sons with one sister Ruth. Ray put himself through college in the engineering program at Rolla. He was a brilliant and decorated engineer who spent 47 years at McDonnell Douglas / Boeing and was recognized as an expert in his field, developing many patents for the company and achieving the position of Senior Technical Fellow. Ray was also an excellent guitar player and musician as well as a huge fan of Chet Atkin’s music. He loved learning and reading, but as much as he enjoyed his work and his hobbies, his greatest joy was his family. During college Ray met, and married Carolyn Jurgensen of Clinton Iowa in 1965 and they settled in St. Louis. The pride of their lives were their two boys, Brandt and Bob. They taught them about faith, hard work, the importance of education, and could always be seen and heard on the side lines cheering them on in every endeavor. Ray used his engineering and carpentry skills to build ramps for the boys’ BMX bike obsession. Carolyn passed too soon in September of 2005 from pancreatic cancer. Ray was blessed to have another love in his life, Martha McCrate and they married in 2011. Martha and Ray traveled all over the world seeing the sights and taste testing ice cream everywhere they went. Ray developed Parkinson’s Disease which changed their adventures, but Martha was always at his side making sure he got to experience as much as possible. Ray loved and was loved by many who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers, Edward, Herman, Mike, Lorenz, Emil and Clarence, as well as Carolyn. He leaves behind his wife Martha, sister Ruth, sons Brandt (Beth) and Bob (Sharon) as well as his 5 grandchildren: Mason (Bailee), Anna, Lauren, Will, and Kate, and his 9-month-old great grandson Brooks. Ray was an incredible example of humility, never drawing attention to himself or his achievements, rather letting his thoughtful actions speak for him. Visitation will be held at Bopp Chapel Monday, February 17 from 10:30-12:00 with a service following. Interment will follow at Bellerive Gardens on Mason Road. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Siteman Cancer Center or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
