Mike (Ta-Chean) Hsu

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mike (Ta-Chean) Hsu, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend who passed away on April 18, 2023 at the age of 83. Mike was a devoted husband to his wife Yoshiko, a loving father to his children Lillian (Hsu) Buckman and Leo Hsu, a doting grandfather to Emmy (Buckman), Anna (Buckman), Karissa (Hsu), Ella (Hsu), and Charlie (Hsu). Mike was born in Chongqing, Sichuan Providence, China in 1940 to Ka-Shieh and Wen-Chu (Yen) Hsu. He was the youngest of four children with three older siblings, Dazheng Xu, Cecilia (Wang), and Lucia (Yin). After finishing his Political Science Degree from the National Chengchi University in Taiwan, he immigrated to the United States to pursue his Master’s degree at Indiana State University (Terre Haute, Indiana) where he met his wife, Yoshiko Nishimura. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, sacrificing his own needs for the sake of his children's future. Despite facing many challenges along the way, he never gave up and remained determined to provide his family with the best possible life. Mike survived quintuple bypass surgery and lung cancer, while still being the primary caregiver for his wife Yoshiko, who suffered a debilitating spinal cord injury in 1998. He attended to her every need with love and dedication. He was a member of Restoration Community Church and participated faithfully in online services even throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Mike was known for his peaceful and kind spirit and his unwavering faith in Jesus. Mike is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dazheng. His passing is a great loss to his family and friends, but they find solace in the knowledge that he is now resting peacefully with his Savior. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service to celebrate Mike's life will be held at Restoration Community Church, located at 11971 Borman Drive, St. Louis, MO 63146, 10am on April 22, 2023.
