Melvin Leonard Young

Melvin Leonard Young, a devoted husband, cherished father, adoring grandfather and great-grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 28, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on December 24, 1937, Melvin lived a life rich in faith, family, and purpose. Melvin's early journey led him to pursue a calling in ministry, studying at St. John's College in Winfield, Kansas, and later at Concordia Seminary in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Though he initially set out to become a pastor, recognizing his true passion for construction and design, he embraced the field of civil and structural engineering. He then achieved a Master's Degree from Washington University in St. Louis, embarking on a distinguished career that spanned over 60 years. Throughout his tenure at LeMessurier and EDM, Inc., Melvin had the privilege of crafting remarkable structures, including the iconic Sea World and the beloved restoration of St. Louis's Union Station. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his unwavering commitment to his family and faith. A loving husband for over 66 years to his beloved wife, Faye Young, Melvin is survived by their children: Loren (Lynn) Young, Amy (Rick) Cwiklowski, Darren (Deb) Young, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Young; as well as eight grandchildren, Nathan Young, Stephanie (David) Clark, Angela Peterman, Aaron Miller, Ryan Miller, Jessica Young, William Young, and Daniel Young; five great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Rosalie, William, Jordan, and Kyler; all who were his pride and joy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Gladys Young, and his only sibling, Dean Young. He was a long time, active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Overland, where through the years, he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served in leadership roles including as an Elder. In his leisure, Melvin delighted in building and flying model airplanes, being a Boy Scout Leader, enjoying camping trips, and fly fishing amidst the serenity of nature. He lived a life imbued with love for his God, family and a spirit of adventure, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and creativity. A graveside service to honor Melvin Leonard Young will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Bellerive Gardens Cemetery, 740 N. Mason Road, Creve Coeur, MO 63141. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable life lived for others.
