Mary Patricia Christy

Mary Patricia Christy passed away Monday, December 19, 2022 in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 82. Mary was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 6, 1940. She was the beloved wife for nearly 63 years to John Christy. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Florence Ginopolis. She and John married on January 29, 1960, and were blessed with three wonderful children. Peter (Laurette) Christy, Daniel (Christina) Christy, and Georgann (John) Hancock. She was a devoted Yia Yia to her grandchildren, John Hancock, Jr., Johnathan Christy, Mary Kathryn (Bradley) Collins, Peter Christy, and John Christy. She was a proud great Yia-Yia to Toula Christy Collins. Mary’s life was dedicated to worshiping and serving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. From her time many years ago in Bible Study Fellowship, right up to the very end, she remained faithful to the Lord. Her life and death exemplified the words of the Apostle Paul: “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day – and not only to me, but also all who have longed for his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:6-8) Mary graduated from Eastern Michigan University with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in education. But it was her unwavering commitment to serving her God, loving her husband, and raising her family that were the hallmarks of her well-lived life. Mary is survived by two brothers, John (Marion) Ginopolis and Peter (Melissa) Ginopolis. She was a loving Aunt, Great Aunt, Cousin, and dear friend to many. A visitation will be held at 11:30am Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road, Kirkwood, Missouri 63122. A Memorial Service will follow at Bopp Chapel at 12:30pm. A procession to the gravesite at Bellerive Cemetery will immediately follow the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary’s memory to Bible Study Fellowship, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, or the Humane Society of Missouri. Arrangements by Bopp Chapel.
