Kou Chu Li

Kou Chu Li of St. Louis, MO, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family members on October 28, 2024, at age 88. KC, as he was often known by, began his life humbly in the countryside of Pingtung, Taiwan, where he was the fourth of ten children and eldest of six brothers in a traditional Hakka family. Hard-working and intelligent, KC attended college at the prestigious Taiwan National University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After fulfilling his mandatory military service, he returned home to Pingtung, married his beloved and began a family. A few years later, KC left Taiwan and his young family to pursue graduate studies at Kansas State University. After receiving his master’s degree, he brought his wife and two daughters to the States, shortly thereafter adding a son. The family then settled in St. Louis where KC raised his family and proudly worked at McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) for 30 years in mechanical design and thermodynamics. His well-earned retirement in 1999 opened doors for him to travel, visit grandchildren and pursue his interests. A loving husband and father, KC enjoyed classical music and playing tennis, golf and bridge with friends. A diehard fan, he never missed a Cardinals or Blues game. KC also studied God’s word for nearly a decade before he came into belief; he was baptized at the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of St. Louis at age 53. For many years, he served the church community in various capacities, including treasurer and elder. Unassuming in many ways, he will be remembered for his selflessness, integrity, fortitude and loyalty. KC is survived by his wife of 64 years, Cherng, also known as Carol; three children, Janet, Alice and Albert (Al), and sons-in-law, Peter and Matthias; five grandchildren, Alanna, Sarah, Kaia, Lucas and Sania. He also leaves behind brothers GuoSen Li and GuoLiang Li, sisters YuMei Li and YuHui Li, as well as a large extended family in Taiwan. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Taiwanese Presbyterian Church of Greater St. Louis, 542 Ries Rd, Ballwin, MO 63021. Any donations or flower arrangements may be directed to the church in his name.
