Joe William Collman

Joe William Collman, a beloved member of the St. Louis community, passed away peacefully at his home on June 9, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on November 18, 1939, in Highland, Illinois, Joe dedicated his life to his profession, his passions, and his friends and family. A highly respected Certified Public Accountant, Joe honed his expertise throughout his career, working with esteemed organizations such as Peat Marwick and Missouri Baptist Hospital before founding his own successful private firm. His commitment to excellence and integrity became a hallmark of his professional life, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients. Beyond his profession, Joe had a deep affection for the arts and a zest for life that knew no bounds. He was a long-time supporter of the Fox Theatre, holding season tickets since its reopening in 1983, and was a devoted patron of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, The Repertory Theatre, and STAGES St. Louis at the Kirkwood Performing Arts Center. His love for the theater and music enriched his life and the lives of those who shared these experiences with him. Joe was a true adventurer at heart. He traveled the world, embracing new cultures and experiences with enthusiasm and curiosity. Those who had the pleasure of hearing his travel tales will remember the joy and wonder he brought to every story. Joe also served as the financial treasurer for the Gaitway Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of Greater St. Louis, reflecting his love for animals and community involvement. His warmth, kindness, and generosity touched many lives, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Ruby (Redfearn) Collman; his previous partner, Charles Hughes; brother: Jim, Ben and Alan Collman; sister, Betty Lou Knebel; niece, Patricia Knebel; and nephew, Robert Knebel. Survivors include his partner of 22 years, Dennis McMichael; daughter, Dr. Jessica (Pete) McMichael; son, Cole (Kristi) McMichael; and grandchildren: Kale, Kace and Marin; as well as nieces and nephews: Jane (Gary) Evans, Roger Knebel, Mary Knebel, Deb O’Brien, Linda Collman and Tony Collman; along with great nieces and great nephews. Memorial services to honor Joe's life and legacy will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Bellerive Gardens Cemetery, 740 N. Mason Road, St. Louis, Missouri, 63141. Friends and family will be invited to celebrate the remarkable life he led and the indelible impact he had on those around him. Cremation has been accorded by Valhalla Funeral Chapel, Crematory and Cemetery, 7600 St. Charles Rock Road, St Louis, Missouri, 63133.
