Avis Georgina Bordner

Avis Georgina Bordner, 81, of Fenton, Missouri, died peacefully Thursday, November 28, 2024 at St. Clare Hospital, Fenton, Missouri, with her family by her side. Avis Georgina Bordner was born March 11, 1943 in Breckenridge, MN, the daughter of Thomas and Helga (Hakanson) Hogness. She attended school in Wyndmere and Milnor, North Dakota, and graduated from Milnor High School in 1961. She obtained her LPN license from the North Dakota State College of Science and moved to Denver, CO to work as a nurse. On July 24, 1965, Avis was united in marriage to James R. Bordner in Denver, Colorado. They raised their family in Fenton, MO. After retiring from nursing, Avis was active as a volunteer for St. Clare Hospital and a member of their Auxiliary. She also loved spending time with her five grandchildren. Avis was also known for her energy and outgoing personality. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her husband James Bordner, daughter, Laura (Chris Poppen) Bordner, Ballwin, MO and son, Larry (Mary) Bordner, Fenton, MO; five grandchildren Alex (Kelsey) Poppen, Olivia (Jacob Marty) Poppen, Jamie Poppen, Ben Bordner and Max Bordner. She is also survived by a sister Mary (Dan dec.) Sinner and brothers, Orvin (Marlene) Hogness, Raymond (Carol dec.) Hogness, James (Shirley dec.) Hogness, Jerome Hogness and Tom (Wanda) Hogness. Avis was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Helga Hogness, sister Ione Freeland, brother Paul, brothers-in-law Keith Freeland and Dan Sinner, and sisters-in-law Carol Hogness and Shirley Hogness. The visitation for Avis will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 9-11:30am at Jay B Smith Funeral Home (777 Oakwood Dr., 63026). The funeral service will begin at 11:30am at the same location. Burial following the funeral service will be at Bellerive Gardens Cemetery (740 N. Mason Rd., 63141). Avis' family wishes to thank the staff at St. Clare Hospital for their kind and loving care.
