Alexander Rahm III

Alexander Rahm III, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on December 27, 1938, the eldest child of Alexander Rahm II and May (Mae) Treece Smith Rahm. He was affectionately nicknamed Mickey or Mick. Al grew up in St. Louis with his parents and two younger brothers, William “Billy” Michael Rahm and Thomas “Tommy” Allen Rahm. According to family, the Rahm brothers were always up to shenanigans, but were hard workers. In school, Al enjoyed and excelled in math. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Central College, Fayette, Missouri, and Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee. Early in his career, Al worked on the Gemini Project at McDonnell Aircraft. His team worked on the guidance computer and tested the spacecraft systems with the astronauts. Al pursued his graduate degree in Electrical Engineering at the University of Missouri Rolla (UMR). After graduation, Al was hired at IBM and worked as a systems engineer for 44 years until he retired in 2012. Al married his high school sweetheart, Teresa Roberta Anne Gillon, on September 3, 1960. Al always admired Roberta’s intelligence and supported her educational pursuits. Al and Roberta joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1966 in Rolla, Missouri. They were sealed in the Manti, Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1968. Al always appreciated Roberta’s dedication to their family, especially in raising their seven children, and credited her for doing the lion’s share because his career required him to travel. Roberta provided comfort and care to Al and, in his own words, “Roberta is the best nurse, doctor, friend, and wife that I know of.” He was grateful for her companionship, especially during the final weeks of his life. Al was well known in the St. Louis wrestling community, helping run the Bonhomme Wrestling Club for many years. He devoted decades of his time coaching and volunteering in the youth sports community, a coach and mentor to his sons and many others. The young men who had the pleasure of interacting with him affectionately called him “Big Al.” Al loved his family and time they spent together, especially in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He rarely missed an opportunity to be Grandpa Uber and loved visiting his children and grandchildren. Gathering as a family was important to Al. Al’s final counsel to his grandchildren was to “work hard.” In Al’s own words, “I have a wonderful wife and seven wonderful and successful children and their families…I feel that Roberta and I have had a very successful career and relationship for all these years…We weren’t poor, but not rich either. I think we made it in this world.” His children and grandchildren agree, as they carry on his legacy. Al is survived by his wife, Roberta; his children Rebecca Carol Rahm, Alexander Rahm IV (LaRae Lynn Taylor), Michael Joseph Rahm (Sarah Joan Witters), Stephen Sawyer Rahm, David Allen Rahm, Carrie Anne Rahm Rhodes (James Perry Rhodes), Robert Linder Rahm (Amy Leigh Martin); his grandchildren Alexander Rahm V, Zachary Alexander Rahm, Michael “Mickey” Joseph Rahm, Jr., Kylee Karen Rahm Villa Quevedo (Cody Alexander Villa Quevedo), Eleanor Marena Rahm, Rebecca Anne Rhodes, Lilly England Rahm, Samuel Bruce Rahm, Matthew David Rahm, Brandon Matthew Rahm, Jonathon Stephen Rahm, James Michael Rhodes, Lucas Michael David Rahm, Nicholas Aaron Rahm, Spencer Martin Rahm, David Larry “Chumby” Rhodes, Sydney Elizabeth Emily Rahm, William David Rahm, Lauren Emily Rahm, Maxwell Linder Rahm, Bradley Hugh Rahm, and Isaac John Rhodes. Al is preceded in death by his parents Al and Mae Rahm, brothers Bill and Tom Rahm, and granddaughter Ava Mae Rahm. Services: The family will receive friends at SCHRADER Funeral Home and Crematory, 14960 Manchester Road at Holloway, Ballwin, Missouri, 63011 on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral will be conducted at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15081 Clayton Road, Chesterfield, Missouri, 63017 on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11:00 am. Visitation is from 9:30 am until 10:30 am prior to the service. All are welcome. Interment will follow in Bellerive Gardens Cemetery, Creve Coeur, Missouri.
